A text message helped the U.S. Coast Guard track down an Illinois wind surfer stranded on Lake Michigan.
It was all caught on camera.
His mast broke about a mile east of Lee Street Beach in Evanston.
Without a sail, he couldn’t make it back to shore.
So, he texted a friend.
The friend called police, who called the Coast Guard.
They say it’s a good reminder of the importance of lifejackets, and having a reliable way to call for help.
