It all happened around 10:30 at a home on Jack’s Trail in Long Lake Township.

"Traverse City is not a small town anymore crime is getting much more serious," says Sheriff Tom Bensley.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff says David Peretiatko was shot to death at a home in Long Lake Township Friday night.  His wife Ashley was shot in the hand and face. The sheriff says David was wanted for a killing someone, thousands of miles away.

"David Peretiatko and Ashley Peretiatko were living on the west coast in early October. Ashley returned home to Jacks Trail residence in early October. Based on reports from the Las Vegas Police Department, it is believed that David Peretiatko committed a homicide in Las Vegas on or about October 11, 2016 by luring a victim into a hotel room and stabbing the victim," says Bensley.

David then stole the victim’s car and drove to Traverse City.

"A sergeant with the Grand Traverse sheriff’s office received information that David Peretiatko may be coming to the home where Ashley Peretiatko was currently residing," says Bensley.

The sergeant called Ashley’s father to let him know.

That’s when the father told the sergeant about the shooting.

Ashley’s mother also called 911.

“We’re still trying to confirm the reason why this shooting occurred,” says Bensley.

Ashely was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

No arrests have been made and the shooting remains under investigation.

“It’s unfortunate for all involved,” says Bensley.
