Crystal Lake Yacht Club Hosts 2016 MC National Championship Regatta

“We’ve never hosted an MC National here at Crystal Lake.”

A national sail boat race has many gathering in Northern Michigan.

The 2016 MC Scow National Championship Regatta starts Thursday.

This marks the first year the sail boat race is being held on Crystal Lake in Benzie County.

102 boats are registered so far… But the Crystal Lake Yacht Club is expecting to see that number go up.

Three of those sailors are women.

The boat races typically take 45 minutes to an hour to complete, but only one boat will win at the end of the weekend.

Wednesday night, the Crystal Lake Yacht Club welcomed sailors from around the nation.

“It’s going to be very exciting, our starting line is probably going to be over a mile long. 41:40: our first race starts at 10 o’clock. We’ll race in the afternoon and then again on Friday and finish up on Saturday,” says the 2016 Regatta Championship Chair Kelly Winter.

The Crystal Lake Yacht Club has hosted other large sail boat races before.

They feel honored to be the home of the national regatta this year.
