Keeping Dogs Safe Around Fireworks Displays

People aren’t the only ones who needs to stay safe around fireworks — it’s also important to protect your furry friends.

It’s important to pay attention to your dogs this time of year.

Animals typically don’t tolerate loud noises very well, so try to comfort your dog and give them a safe area to go to during fireworks.

“There are items you can purchase like a thunder shirt, and that’s just a snuggle shirt that will keep the animal calm,” said Wexford County Shelter Shares Leader, Judy Nichols. “Another thing you can do is find the lowest part in your home in a secluded room, put the animal in there.”

If you do decide to take your dog to a fireworks show, keep it on a leash so it doesn’t get spooked and run away.
