Free Conference to Discuss Helping Children with Developmental Disabilities

A free workshop this Thursday aims to help families of kids with developmental disabilities.

It’s called re-thinking guardianship and facilitating life-long self-determination.

The conference is October 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Michigan Works! Office in Traverse City.

They’ll discuss how to advocate for adult children, and how to help students transition into independent living.

“We love having a diverse group. Professionals, parents, those that are supporting someone that might be facing the situation. Anyone with an interest in this topic,” said Nicole Miller, who works for the hosting organization Michigan Alliance for Families.

There’s also a free conference Saturday.
