UPDATE: Driver’s Body Found in Mason County Snowmobile Crash

The search is over for a missing snowmobiler who went over an embankment and in to the Pere Marquette River.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department and several other departments found 35-year-old William Green's body late Monday afternoon. His body was found 75 yards from where he went in the river in about five feet of water.

Deputies were dispatched to the Pere Marquette River in Amber Township around after 7 p.m. Sunday. Green's snowmobile was found in the river a few hours later.

The sheriff's department says he went over the edge of an embankment and fell about 100 feet into the Pere Marquette River, through the ice.

The sheriff says Green and his friend, who were snowmobiling in the open field next to the embankment, were not familiar with the area.

Weather and water conditions prevented crews from searching the river Sunday night, so crews started their search Monday morning.

Speed or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
