Meals On Wheels Operating on Tighter Budget

Meals on Wheels will have less money to feed seniors this fiscal year.

Due to the federal sequester set in motion earlier this year, thousands are gone from the Meals On Wheels budget.

According to the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency in Traverse City who oversees Meals On Wheels in five counties, $50,000 is gone from the new budget.

Now the organization is forced to raise $100,000, twice their usual fundraising goal, to cover the loss of funding from the government.

To supplement the lost funds Meals On Wheels is working with food rescue, accepting donated food items, and utilizing more local produce. They are also trying to find new ways to raise money.

Meals On Wheels is in need of more volunteers. For details on how to help CLICK HERE or call 1.800.632.7334.
