Community of Baldwin Has High Hopes for Town’s Future

A glimmer of hope for a town that's seen its fair share of troubles.

Like many communities in northern Michigan, Lake County's Baldwin really struggled during the recession.

But the downturn of the economy hit people in Baldwin especially hard.

Many are now hopeful that the re-opening of the former GEO prison will not only mean jobs, but a revitalization of the town.

The high school has also seen an increase in their graduation rate, and their basketball team won the district championship tonight, boosting the morale for many.

9 and 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jared Barraco spoke with community members excited to see the town turning around.
