Locally Owned BP Gas Stations Informing Customers of Distinction from BP
The letters “B” and “P” may be the least popular in the alphabet right now, but some small businesses hope customers don't take it out on them. Blarney Castle owns about 100 gas stations and EZ Mart's in the region, and many of them are BP. Friday, the family-owned business celebrated in Empire for its Customer Appreciation Day. “We like to get out and see our people, see our customers face to face,” says Bill McCarthy, the owner's son. He says most people can make the distinction between the company, BP, and his family business. But there are some who change their habits. “We're trying to get the word out, that hey, we're an independently, locally owned business that's trying to provide 800 pay checks here in northern Michigan,” he says. 9&10's Ryan Raiche and Photojournalist Justin DePrekel have more on the BP effect.
