Traverse City Hosts Growing Marathon

Organizers had a record turnout for the yearly marathon, half-marathon and 10K races. Registration for each of the marathon varieties was capped at 2,000 and filled up all the way back in March. The less competitive 10K race had over 2,300 athletes including younger racers, those with dogs and even a few seen pushing strollers. The Bayshore has become an important race for serious runners as they prepare for their season. The full marathon was won by Hillary Cheruiyot of Minneapolis with a time of 2:24. Northern Michigan's fastest runner was Traverse City's Eric Houghton with a time of 2:37.
