Boating Safety Tips for Memorial Day Weekend

The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department will have extra patrols on all of the inland lakes this Memorial Day weekend. With that said, the sheriff has some suggestions to stay safe on the water. He says to always wear a lifejacket, never operate a boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol and familiarize yourself with the area you're boating. But a number one safety concern comes before the boat even hits the water. The sheriff says one of the biggest issues they see has to do with improper maintenance. The Boat Doctor, in Indian River, says they have been swamped over the last two weeks, servicing boats before the Memorial Day weekend. 9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalists Jeremy Erickson and Aaron Smith have more details.
