T.C. Salon Collects Hair To Help Clean Up Oil Spill
A Traverse City salon is doing its part to help with clean-up of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Salon Verve is collecting all of its hair clippings to help the cause. Hair naturally absorbs oil, and can be made into hair mats that soak up oil, like what you see here. Salon Verve is sending their clippings to a California company called Matter of Trust. The organization is making the hair mats and distributing them along the coastlines of the Gulf of Mexico. Salon Verve is an organic salon that has been collecting hair clippings since it opened three years ago, as part of an effort to produce as little waste as possible.
