Ogemaw County OB Unit Closing

Some expecting moms in the West Branch area will soon need to go elsewhere to deliver their babies. West Branch Regional Medical Center in Ogemaw County is closing it's obstetric unit July 1st. The move is part of a $1.2 million budget reduction. Hospital officials say a decline in births, issues with newborn nursery coverage and poor reimbursements of Medicaid claims contributed to the decision. Northern Michigan's News Leader is talking to local doctors today who are worried about what it means for patients and their practices.
