Congress Named Traverse City Just the 10th Coast Guard City

Traverse city has joined an exclusive group, thanks to the close relationship it's built with the U.S. Coast Guard. Traverse city is now just the tenth city in the country designated as a “Coast Guard City.” The recognition is handed out by Congress and requires a special review. The award goes to communities where the town and Coast Guard station work especially well together. One of the local commanders pointed to their close work with elementary schools as one highlight of the relationship.
