Antrim Co. Police Tracking Sexual Assault Suspect

Police in Antrim County are following the steps of a man who they believe may have sexually assaulted a teen, and then took off downstate. The victim's family says the sexual assault happened early last month at a home in the Lakes of the North community near Mancelona. The family went to school officials and police the next morning, which was March 9th. The Antrim County Sheriff's Department immediately began conducting interviews then, but no arrests have been made. Sheriff Bean says the suspect has since fled downstate. The girl's family doesn't understand how that was allowed to happen. Sheriff Bean tells us this is a complex case that his team is actively working on. He says a case like this takes time to thoroughly investigate and gather enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt, should it end up in court. The Sheriff says his team knows where the suspect is, and could make an arrest this week if their investigation calls for it. Erika Waddell and photojournalist Justin DePrekel have the story.
