Major Road Work Near Cadillac Slated For August

A major construction project is planned for this busy stretch of road near Cadillac. The Michigan Department of Transportation will tear out all of the concrete along a one-mile stretch of N. Mitchell Street, and re-pave it. The project will span from Thirteenth Street to Boon Road in Haring Township, and will begin this August. That stretch of road is currently five lanes. In early august, MDOT will start tearing up the pavement to put in new asphalt and repair curbs. That will mean taking traffic down to one lane in each direction. MDOT says drivers will feel the impact of that, but it will be better for them in the long run. The project is expected to wrap-up by the end of October. Tonight MDOT held a public meeting to address any concerns. Some wondered about access to businesses in the construction zone. MDOT says they will maintain access to all business and will work with business owners if need be, so they take as little hit as possible. Erika Waddell and photojournalist Justin DePrekel have the story.
