Firefighters Responded to Prescribed Burn Fire

A Mason County brush fire had people on edge, concerned it was a wild fire. This fire started on purpose, but firefighters stayed close, worried it would spread. The prescribed burn happened on private property off Conrad Road in Pere Marquette Township. Firefighters, afraid the fire would burn out of control, closed off Pere Marquette highway and went to work. The firefighters told 9&10 News that many of the calls were from concerned people who saw the smoke, but they weren't aware it was a prescribed burn. 9&10's Cali O'Rourke and photojournalist Corey Petee spoke with firefighters who put out the flames, they have more information. The DNRE reminds you to obtain a burn permit before you start any fire.
