New Center Coming To Help Abused Children

Children suffering from abuse and neglect in the Grand Traverse Region will be treated in a new way soon. Several grants are helping to open a new facility called the Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center. The Traverse City center is about a month away from opening. It will be operated by police, DHS, and local prosecutors to help serve and council children. A $35,000 grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will help pay for the staff's specialized training. The center also received grants from Rotary Charities and Cherryland Electric Foundation to help fund its operations.
