‘Princess and Frog’ Pendant Recalled for Cadmium

Federal consumer safety regulators are announcing a recall of “The Princess and The Frog” movie-themed children's pendants, citing high levels of the toxic heavy metal cadmium. Friday's recall affects about 55,000 items, sold exclusively at Walmart stores. The voluntary recall by FAF Inc., of Greenville, R.I., comes several weeks after an Associated Press investigation reported high levels of cadmium in the pendants and other children's metal jewelry imported from China. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says FAF cooperated in the investigation. This is the first time any consumer product has been recalled in the United States because of cadmium, a known carcinogen that recent research also suggests can harm brain development in children.
