Bundle of Joy Taken Away from Family, Community in Tragic Wreck

Two communities are grieving the loss of a respected teacher and a loving mother of four. Funeral arrangements are now in place for Carrie Bricker-Hauger who was killed a car accident over the weekend. Bricker Hauger was taking her kids home from a snowmobile race in Cadillac on Sunday when police say she ran a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming car near Springfield Township in Kalkaska County. Three of her four children were in the car, but they are OK. Bricker-Hauger was a special education teacher at Central Lake Elementary School in Antrim County. Superintendent Steve Paliewicz describes her as a “bundle of joy who will be greatly missed.” Up until last year, Bricker-Hauger also coached junior varsity volleyball at Boyne City High School. That's where she became good friends with fellow coach, Casie Parker. “She was probably the best friend, coach, and teacher anyone could ever ask for,” says Parker. The impact of this tragedy stretches through both communities where she was known. Bricker-Hauger's visitation will be held from 4-8pm Wednesday and 2:30 on Thursday at the St. Matthews Church in Boyne City. The funeral service is set for 4:30 Thursday following the visitation.
