Haiti Disaster Prompts More Local Blood Donations

It appears the devastation in Hati is bringing more people out to help each other in Northern Michigan. Monday evening, a blood drive in Kingsley saw markedly more people come in and donate, and volunteers said donors kept mentioning wanting to do something for the people of Haiti. Most of the blood going to Haiti is coming from Florida. So although Monday's drive won't help there, Michigan Blood says disasters spur people to give back, even in their own communities. “They get a desire to help at a time like this, even though it's not going to them, to Haiti, they really get a desire to help,” Marge Wagner, volunteer, said. Michigan Blood out of Traverse City says this drive helped bring in about 25 pints.
