Budget Scaled Back For ‘Pure Michigan’ Campaign

The 'Pure Michigan' advertising campaign could miss out on some summer advertising unless the state finds a new way to fund the campaign. Last year's budget was $30 million. This year, the state budgeted less than $6 million for the campaign. Hotel owners in both Petoskey and Mackinaw City are worried over the cuts. Both areas say they've noticed results from the campaign and don't want to see it scaled back. According to the executive director at the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau, for every dollar the state spends on this tourism marketing program, the state gets $3 back in return. 9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Aaron Smith have more details after talking to the local hotel owners.
