12:30pm Disaster in Haiti Update: Helicopter Rescues Injured US Embassy Staff Members

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has removed four critically injured U.S. Embassy staff members from Haiti to the hospital on the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. And more U.S. military help is on the way. Parts of an Air Force special operations wing are due this afternoon to help with operations at the airport in Port-au-Prince. An aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, is expected to arrive off the coast of Haiti tomorrow. Southern Command says other Navy ships are on their way as well. President Barack Obama this morning promised a full-scale rescue and humanitarian effort for Haiti. He said search and rescue teams will be arriving in Haiti today and tomorrow, and that additional rescue and medical equipment and emergency personnel will be sent.
