Rivals Versus Cancer Game Aims to Score Money

Upper Peninsula basketball teams put their rivalry aside for a good cause. Tuesday night's girls and boys basketball game between Sault Ste. Marie and Brimley raised money for cancer. The game was called “Rivals Versus Cancer.” All money raised will go toward War Memorial Hospital's Oncology department and the Hospice of the EUP. The school had a tailgate party before the game to raise money. The teams traded in their regular jerseys for pink ones. They also sold hot pink shirts. “The kids are really into it and all our players, boys and girls have been out selling, promoting these t-shirts to help raise money for cancer,” Patrick Bennin, girl's varsity coach, said. The teams hoped to raise more than five thousand dollars.
