Munson Healthcare May Team up with Spectrum Health

A Northern Michigan health care organization may soon be teaming up with a downstate hospital. Munson Healthcare announced this morning it's working on a deal with Grand Rapids based Spectrum Health. The agreement is not considered a merger, but rather a partnership. The two organizations would share resources to deliver quality regional health care. Munson leaders tell Northern Michigan's News Leader the agreement is still in the works but say the identity of the organization in Northern Michigan will not change. The goal of the partnership is to make both operations stronger. “Patients won't notice any difference in any of the facilities over the next six months to a year. This is a long term move that will bring physicians to Northern Michigan and capital and resources to Northern Michigan over the next 20 to 30 years,” Doug Deck, Munson Healthcare CEO, said. Both parties will spend the next four to five months negotiating, then vote on a final agreement.
