NMC Boasts Enrollment Boost

More students than ever are going back to class at Northwestern Michigan College this semester. The Traverse City based community college set another enrollment record. This semester, more than five-thousand are enrolled at the college. That's 20-percent or about 500 students more than this time last year, which was their last record. The college attributes the higher numbers to the economy and older people going back to school. “We were expecting this and consequently we have been planning for that. We added sections, we've hired more adjunct instructors, we've been preparing for it. We heard it would happen. We see this continuing for probably another semester or more,” Jim Bensley, director of NMC admissions, said. Bensley says about 40 percent of their current student body is over the age of 25.
